Riders Edge® New Rider Course
With the use of our motorcycles, established curriculum, skilled instructors, and a supportive atmosphere, the New Rider Course is designed to teach those new to motorcycling how to feel comfortable and confident, and ride safely. Come prepared by bringing the following: DOT approved helmet, protective eyewear, full-fingered gloves, over-the-ankle leather boots, jeans, heavy long-sleeved shirt, valid automobile driver's license or learner's permit, and the ability to ride a bicycle.
Upon completion of the course and you are appliying for your Motorcycle Endorsement in the state of MIssouri, the class qualifies as the driving portion of your Motorcycle Endorsement Test. You will then ONLY need to go to a local testing office to take the written portion of the test in which you already took and passed in order to complete the course.
Class option are as follows (unless otherwise indicated). You may choose one of the following. Classes total 25 hours; there is a weekday class which runs Tuesday through Thursday 8am-5pm, or an Evenings and Weekend class which runs Thursday and Friday evening 5:30pm-8:30pm, Saturday and Sunday 8am-4pm, Tuesday 5:30pm-8:30pm.
Riders Edge® Skilled Rider Course
For riders who want a challenge, the Skilled Rider Course will put you and your motorcycle to the test. Courses are offered on scheduled Saturday's from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants use their own motorcycles. All makes are welcome.
Come prepared with the following: DOT approved helmet, motorcycle license, proof of valid motorcycle insurance, protective eyewear, motorcycling gloves, long-sleeve shirt or jacket, over-the-ankle boots, and jeans or motorcycling pants.
*Please be aware that we have a "no refund" policy less than 30 days prior to your scheduled class. All attempts will be made to reschedule for situations that apply.*
Meet Our Instructors

Rusty James, Program Manager
Rusty has been a Program Manager for Rider's Edge since the program's inception at Gail's Harley-Davidson. He has been training motorcycle riders, including police officers, since 1993 and has been riding motorcycles for over 40 years.
Greg Pruitt

Brian Heinen
Brian has been a police officer with the City of Olathe since 1988, was a police motorcycle operator from 1997-2006, and a police motorcycle instructor since 1999. He became a motorcycle safety inspector through the Motorcycle Safety Foundation in 2001. In 2008 He became one of Gail's Harley-Davidson's Riders Edge Rider Coaches.

Dan Matt
Dan is a retired KCMO police officer with 27 years experience as a motorcycle officer. He is a Nationally Certified Motorcycle Instructor for KCMO, has been a Motorcycle Safely Foundations Ridecoach for eight years, a Riders Edge Instructor for three years, and a motorcyclist for over 50 years.

Kathy Matt
Kathy is a retired elementary school teacher and is currently a Missouri Western University Adjunct Instructor. She has been a Motorcycle Safety Foundation Ridecoach for six years and a Riders Edge Instructor for three years. She has been a motorcyclist for over 40 years.

Larry Parks
Larry is a retired police officer with 29 years of service and a background in training and education. He has been a Motocycle Safety Insructor since 2005 and became a Gail's Harley-Davidson Riders Edge Instructor in 2010. He rides a 2008 H-D Street Glide and is active in the American Heartland H.O.G. Chapter, serving as a road captain. You can find Larry at our dealership nearly every day!
